My 10 Favorite Primus Songs

One of my all-time favorites, Primus, are embarking on a summer tour, their first in almost four years.  And while Jay Lane has replaced former drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander, and while the band hasn’t released anything since 2003, and while I won’t be able to catch them on the road this time around (no Texas dates at all, guys? Really?), I still have a soft spot in my heart for the boys in Brown – Les, Ler, and Herb/Brain/Jay.  I suppose I always will.  So, with no more ado, I present to you my favorite Primus songs; for those of you who only know the band for producing the South Park theme, consider this an introductory course to the best funk/alt-metal band ever and a peek into my adolescent years.

10. My Friend Fats (from Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People EP, 2003)

9. Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver (from Tales From the Punchbowl, 1995)

8. John the Fisherman (from Frizzle Fry, 1990)

7. Those Damned Blue Collared Tweekers (from Sailing the Seas of Cheese, 1991)

6. Welcome to This World (from Pork Soda, 1993)

5. Golden Boy (from Brown Album, 1997)

4. My Name Is Mud (from Pork Soda, 1993)

3. The Heckler (from Suck On This, 1990)

2. Tommy the Cat (from Suck On This, 1990)

1. Jerry Was a Race Car Driver (from Sailing the Seas of Cheese, 1991)

It will piss you off but I like Tommy the Cat better than Jerry was a racecar driver.

Where is lacquer head, and John the Fisherman is their best song by far.

  • Herb Erectile Says:

I don’t like most of the songs you listed. What about DMV and Mr. Knowitall and Too Many Puppies. Thanks for #10. Never heard that one! Let’s face it, does Primus even have 10 great songs? What the world needs right now is for Les Claypool to see a mental health professional.

    Primus sucks! 🙂
